The House

Woolshed Accommodation

Origins

 ‘Lanarium’ (latin)

Derivitive of lanarius meaning WOOL

The inspiration for establishing Lanarium Retreat all started with the ‘house’.

Built in 1964 the woolshed on Shirbar was used to shear the sheep that ran on the property as well as sheep from another block just to the north.

In later years, the property was sold and the new owners chose to convert the woolshed into accommodation for family and friends to stay in while visiting the property.
It was their intention for the outside of the building to retain its woolshed appearance which they achieved with great success, while inside it emerged from its transformation as an architectural mix of industrial, farmhouse and woolshed represented by the corrugated iron walls, vaulted timber-framed ceilings and original wooden floors.

The let-out shoots, overhead gear and landing are all reminders of its previous life and even the smell of lanolin lingers on occasion.

Exclusive Luxury

We have tried to style Lanarium in line with its heritage, which has created an eclectic mix best described as recrafted luxury industrial farmhouse.

Where possible, we have used materials sourced from either Shirbar or Dunroman to create the pieces of furniture and décor.

The house can accommodate 7 guests over 3 bedroooms. A Queen room, a King/Twin room and the third room has three 3 King singles.
There is an open plan lounge, dining and full kitchen. The gauzed porch out the front is an ideal spot for that morning coffee, looking east over the farm. An evaporative air conditioner provides cooling in summer, and a wood heater warms the house in winter.

The outdoor area has a fire pit for the traditional campfire, storey telling, and marshmallow cooking. A Weber BBQ and a woodfired BBQ is provided. If you’ve never tasted meat cooked on a wood BBQ, this will be your next ‘food experience’.

A Sustainable Stay

Addressing the question of sustainability, Lanarium Retreat embodies all things renewable.  We are self sufficient in water supply, energy generation as well as rubbish and waste water disposal.

Energy is supplied via an off-grid solar system with battery bank and backup generator.  We have access to 80 000 ltrs of rainwater storage, all rubbish is disposed of on site, food scraps go to the chooks for recycling into the best farm eggs, and we have an Ozzie Kleen Water Treatment Plant processes that disposes the waste water.

All these components combined keep the impact to the environment to a minumum, maximising sustainablity, while utilising surrounding resources.
